I retained John Whitbeck after my original lawyer (different firm) left her firm at the very beginning of my divorce process. On the recommendation of a friend, I was able to make an appointment with John. He spent over an hour listening to the background and concerns I had regarding the divorce. He has been available for every phone call and email with a prompt replay. John has been very straight forward about the process and about clarifying what can and cannot happen. There is no such thing as an easy divorce, but John as made mine as smooth as possible. I have made it clear that I am not willing to have any communication with my husband and John has been on point with every necessary communication with him. No matter what your circumstances are, divorce is a mentally and emotionally draining, stressful life even, I am grateful that John was in my corner the whole way.

I interviewed several lawyers for my situation. I never felt confident with anyone until I met with John Whitbeck. He was aware of what I was going through, showed understanding of how I was feeling and gave me a sense of comfort knowing he would guide me through the process. He was very communicative, kept me in the loop on everything going on, and would explain the process and what to expect. John Whitbeck is a strong, confident lawyer. I highly recommend John Whitbeck to anyone in need of a good lawyer.

Jennifer Cisneros and her team has done a fantastic job with my very complex divorce and custody cases. Ms. Cisneros’ formidable legal expertise combined with her exceptional communication skills gets results! I deeply admire the professionalism she has maintained during some very challenging circumstances. I know that she will work tirelessly on my behalf until we achieve the best outcome for my family.

Long story short, this is the guy you want to hire! Lawyers aren’t your friends, they are there to provide solid legal advice. John focused my attention on what could be done and helped in negotiations. Do yourself a favor and forget what you think you know and let the professionals handle it. FYI- I had a lawyer before I hired John. I’m glad I made the switch.

Out of the many attorneys throughout northern Virginia that specialize in family law, the firm of Whitbeck, Cisneros, and McElroy has the top family law attorneys in the area. Their attorneys are far superior to any that I have encountered and the entire staff is efficient, responsive, friendly, and professional.

Anyone who has ever experienced separation or divorce knows that the process is expensive, difficult, and at times overwhelming. Add custody issues into the mix, and it's impossible to navigate on your own. It is essential to have someone on your side that not only knows the process, but guides you through the process while insuring your interests are represented fully. I highly recommend John Whitbeck, especially for individuals in Loudoun County, Virginia. John worked with me extensively throughout the process and I continue to seek his counsel on any legal matters.

J Whitbeck was extremely responsive to my questions and helped me through this difficult process. I would recommend him to represent you if you need someone to insure you are treated fairly.

I was skeptical at first to retain an attorney as the whole process is not pleasant, to say the least, but I was in a desperate need to find one and address a case that was not expected at all.
From the moment I met Jennifer Cisneros I knew she is the one to help me. Knowledgeable, Responsive, Sharp, are just a few words I can describe her. She took my case and represented me beyond my expectations.

If you want thorough and consistent results, then look no further than Jennifer and her Law firm. She is the most honest and respectful lawyer I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her approach to a case is unmatched. Very highly recommend!

My son choose this firm back in 2018 for a custody suit in order to gain custody of his son & we knew it would be an upward struggle.

We are so very glad we did because Ruth McElroy has been upfront & clear as to what the courts will be going through as well as being a true advocate for what is in the best interested of my grandson.

She and the whole staff have a hard job when it comes to the emotional stress of the clients...I have only seen them handle our stress with empathy and professionalism, even those times they tell us things we do not want to hear because in reality, life does not go the way we demand it to go and it's a hard pill to swallow.

We are still wading through the inaccurate allegations, constant delays & the constant changes in legal services on the other side but Ruth has been steadfast & constant with us and I am grateful for her perseverance.

Finally, I'd like to comment about reviews...I work in a public driven field too & we get negative reviews which mostly come from people who did not get their way and told only part of their story....so please everyone, take the negative reviews with a grain of salt and remember you can't please everyone all the time.....open forums are easy to abuse.

Whitbeck, Cisneros & McElroy PC is the best law firm anywhere. I lived through the most complex divorce on earth, a decade in the making and still an active case in court. John Whitbeck has been an angel sent from heaven who has managed the case thoroughly and very well. Couldn't have asked for better legal representation and I would recommend this law firm to anyone without hesitation and know they cannot find a better firm anywhere north of the Equator.

OK so where to begin. I retained Ruth McElroy as my attorney for my divorce. As was communicated to me by mutual acquaintances Ruth wasn't great at keeping in contact. I didn't mind as there was no rush. in Virginia there is a year waiting period before you can file after separation. she seemed gungho at first, then things seemed to change. Her focus on me as a client seemed to be passed off to assistance and eventually only two days prior to my hearing Ruth had an associate call to inform me that she would be the attorney going to court with me. i was shocked and horrified. I had never met Audrey. She was very nice. I asked her why my lawyer Ruth wasn't going to be handling my case and going to court with me as discussed in our meeting only weeks prior and it was communicated to me that she was more familiar with my case? how is this possible? i was very upset and stressed. I went to court with a lawyer who although was so nice and supportive was unprepared. We brought none of the hundreds of evidence i provided their offices which were relevant to my case and as a result we looked like unprepared fools.
My husband was permitted to sit on the stand and lie about everything and I wasn't given an opportunity to refute any of his lies. only one photo was brought to court and not able to be admitted into evidence because it wasn't part of discovery. This law firm had many months to prepare and showed up without my attorney and without any evidence.
I hadn't a chance. i set a meeting with Ruth after my hearing at which time i expressed my frustration at the way the firm handled my case and she turned on me! She was defensive and rude and accusatory. The person i brought along with me as we walked out of their offices turned to me and stated that it sounded as though she was representing your husband! i was billed over $40,000.00 and went to a hearing and lost with an attorney who wasn't my attorney at all. When i asked the partners John Whitbeck and Ruth McElroy about this in a meeting to discuss my terminating their contract i was promptly told that it was written in my contract that someone else in the firm may have to step in.:)
well, all i can say is ...read and re read your contract. Be careful what you sign and know that you cant just fire your attorney. i tried this via email and was told by Ruth McElroy that I would need a court order to fire her! that would cost me even more money!! i made a mistake and it cost me most of my daughters settlement from her father. good luck!

Great firm! John Whitbeck is brilliant and well respected. You will never wonder about your case, his office is so well organized and if you need him you can reach him. I will refer everyone to him. He was able to get my kids back when my ex moved with them out of state.

Ruth McElroy was extremely incompetent of basic laws and made a very minimal effort toward my help. She had me plead guilty unaware of doing so and would arrive late every date.

Would never recommend for drug crimes.

I have known Mr. John Whitbeck for over 12 years now, and we have supported dozens upon dozens of Northern Virginia individuals and familes together. As a psychologist who frequently serves as a mental health expert for legal matters in the Northern Virginia, courts, clients often ask me for attorney recommendations for family law, civil law and criminal law matters, and Mr. Whitbeck is always at the top of my list! Not only does Mr. Whitbeck have an impressive legal knowledge base, but he cares deeply about his clients and he goes the distance for them. Moreover, he is the only attorney in Loudoun County that has specialty training and experience in mental health law, and thus he is my go-to referral for clients who have attendant mental health and/or educational issues (e.g. Autism or ADHD struggles) within the school system. Keep up the great job John! A 5 star review for a 5 star attorney!
